Default 95 2wd 5spd Hydraulic line removal

I just drug home a 95 Ranger I bought for $250.00 with known clutch/tranny issue. I took a quick look underneath the rig and immediately noticed a broken hose going into the fron of the transmission on the driver side. Evidently 4 different guys of various mechanical ability tried to remove the line and couldn't get it out. I've heard this line has a quick release on it. My question is what would be the easiest way to remove this line? I do not have a manual yet for this truck. I have some a/c hose disconnects ( the little plastic tools used to remove a/c lines). Will these work on this hydraulic line? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Just fought with this over the weekend myself. The paper that came with the slave cylinder I was going to swap out says you push the white sleeve towards the transmission and pull the line out. Yeah right. What we ended up doing was removing the white plastic piece and taking a curved pick and basically destroying the little fingers on the retainer ring inside the slave. This didn’t matter for me as I am replacing the slave anyway. I understand this would mean you need to get a new slave, but for $50 it is hardly a big deal. From what I read, they are a know problem and bound to fail eventually anyway, as mine did on the ’94 with 178,000 miles on it. Maybe you’ll get lucky and the white sleeve will disengage the fingers and you will be able to pull yours out.

And let me guess, you have to disconnect from the inside of the transmission through the inspection hole, huh? Where the line goes in , I see no white sleeve and since 4 other knuckle heads were fiddling around with it, I am asuming they tore this one up too.

Anybody have a manual for sale cheap? Or have links to the pertinent pages for the trans mission? My arse is broke lol and our library doesn't have one to thumb through.

I think if you were to go to an auto parts store and look at the new slave cylinder, you would have a better idea of how it comes apart. You don't have to disconnect through the inspection hole. If you drop the transmission, you will not need to disconnect the line at all, as you will be able to leave it attached to the old slave cylinder and pull the line through the hole.

Ok, sorry so slow to update.... my wife n I just welcomed our 4th child to the family Saturday. As for the line, I bought the $5.96 tool from O'reilly. The white plastic ring had already been destroyed by the previous owner. The tool worked well with a little assistance with a small hammer. I could push the retainer in a small amount with tool alone but, couldn't get it to disengage. Figuring I would replace the slave cylinder anyways I gave the tool a light smack with the hammer and it came free. I think it took about 10 minutes total to get the job done.

Congrats on both....the child and slave cylinder. The work is over on one and just beginning on the other. I have 4 daughters myself and I know how much work it can be. Enjoy your time with the little one.
