Default 09 Rear axle assembly

Hey guys I'm new to the forum. HI.

I just got hit by another truck in the rear and now my wheel is sitting slanted. I don't have pictures but I think I might need to replace the whole assembly. My truck bed is is also bent but might be able to pull it.

Question is:

When buying the rear axle assembly I have no idea what years are compatible? Should I do any upgrades while I am at it.

I drive 09 Ranger sport 2w

Thanks

What gear ratio do you have? If you wanted to go +/- with your gearing, now would be the perfect time. As far as I know, you can use any Ranger axle from 1993-current, maybe even further back. Go for the stronger 8.8" with the limited slip differential, instead of the 7.5".

Thanks alot for the info. I'm not sure what I want (not too mechanically inclined) but I want better haha.

How much do you think this will run me? Any tips for finding these?

Wait to see what others have to say. I'm almost certain that any axle from the years I mentioned have the same spring/shock mounts, but I'm not quite sure when Rangers started getting the 8.8". That might narrow down the window of what years you can take one from....

Car-part.com will search your whole state and you can narrow down by distance

I got a 2006 fx4 level 2 with 8.8 4.10 L/S only had 6,000 miles for 500 dollars had to drive 1 hour and get it but was well worth it

If you know some one that can weld you could upgrade to a explorer rear axle with rear disc brakes

Need to relocate the spring perches and shock mounts
