Default Occasionally won't shift into reverse

I have a 2000 ford ranger xlt, 3.0 v6, automatic 2 wheel drive, that is starting to occasionally not shift into reverse. Shifting back into park or drive will then let it shift into reverse. Could it be a neutral switch or someother switch problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks, dlittlehigh

Check fluid level, add as needed, report back best I can tell you off hand.

Does it ever shift into reverse really hard and then start to shake with an O/D off light flashing?

Thanks for input. Having fluids changed today, to see if that helps. Schultzkenneth, I haven't had that problem occur.
