Well...

You don't have a 31spline rear axle so you can't run an Aussie(unless you swapped axles). I've got one in my 31spline axle. Looooove it and hatttttte it. lol. If I didn't have a manual trans, I'd totally love the thing. There's the Powertrax Lock Right that's VERY similar in design and function and virtually the exact same as the aussie, but is made for the 28spline 8.8. Both install in an open carrier and require no gear setup. Just pull out the spiders and side gears, throw in the new stuff. Weakness: it's only as strong as the carrier.

Detroit is a full carrier replacement. that basically very similar to an aussie, but is in it's own carrier. Carrier replacement requires gear setup(AKA $150-500 install per axle) to check backlash, pinion depth, gear mesh, etc. Generally, you'll be charged the same labor install rate as a gear swap.

Honestly, go for a selectable locker. Take it from someone with an automatic locker(aussie locker/detroit/lock right/no slip), I regret it. Shoulda went selectable in the first place. I want an Eaton E-locker: limited slip when 'unlocked', full spool when 'locked'. Best of both worlds and only a couple hundred more than the price of the detroit.

I suggest you look into a selectable locker. I want an e-locker. But it's up to you what you want. There's tons of selections. Check out ringpinion.com or completeoffroad.com for locker selections.

NEVER a 30. I've blew 3 of those up with just 33's on my old cherokee. I've got a D44, 4.88 gears, toyota steering box, allpro leaves(which i will sell since I wanna go airshocks or coil-overs). I plan to build it to stuff 37's, but will likely run 35's for a lower CG. It'll happen down the road, just can't do it anytime soon.

Just to clarify Shane, the e-locker is open when unlocked. Its not a limited slip.
