Default Doughnut gasket?

I am not sure if this is the right place for this question but i will ask it here and the mods can move it at their discretion!

a random stranger tonight told me my exhaust leak was likely the "doughnut" gasket that connects the exhaust manifold to the cat. it seems like a bit of a ridiculous name for it (slang maybe?) is there a technical term for it that i can use to go into my local NAPA and get the correct part to fix my leak?

also i was told it was a difficult job to complete, has any one completed this and have any material they can reference that would help me out? like a nice writeup with pics?

this is my first post so be patient with me for a bit, i'll get the hang of it. i tried searching the forum but couldn't find any relevant. you gotta start somewhere!

thanks guys!

yes it is called a donut gasket. Its basically a double sided donut that will fit two flared ends that clamp together. Get one for a 67 ford f-100 with 352, it fits and are made of steel.

If you don't have access to a lift! I would take it to an exhaust shop and let them install it. Or to your local mechanic.

well, normally you will find that the flanges on both side of the pipe are rotted off. If thats the case, then a piece of straight pipe and 2 muffler clamps are in order. If not, then the flange clamps are more than likely shot/rusted to the point that the bolts will break. So, buy some new nuts and bolts. They should have a spring that goes on the bolt between the flanges. Basically, break it apart, slip in the new gasket and re-clamp it.

Flange gasket or donut gasket. The only technical term is a description of the joint it makes up in your truck. They're used when joining a flared end.
