Default Transmission problems

Lately I have been having a problem with the automatic transmission on my truck. In stop and go traffic or when im making a turn, the transmission doesnt seem to want to change gears, just revs. I have to let off the gas completely before it desides to change gear ( or select one) and once it does, it shifts hard and jerks forwards. It happens between 1st and 2nd gear. Once when this occured, it selected reverse and when I pressed the brake, it went back into a forward gear. When this occurs, the shifter is in drive.

I was wondering what the problem could be. It doesnt happen constantly, but its still annoying. Recently, I replaced the battery and was reading the manual and saw it has an adaptive system it must relearn when the battery is disconnected/changed. Could that be the problem or is it something more serious? Any input will be helpful.

Thanks,

Frano

I can't answer your question... but my 4.0 auto tranny is doing almost the exact same thing. I've found that if I shift into 2nd every time I stop, the tranny will shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd, then I shift into drive when I hit ~30 mph.

Do some research online about a valve body gasket replacement. I am getting ready to do mine if it keeps acting up. Apparently this is a big issue in these transmissions and the gasket blows out around the solenoids. Don't look like it would be too hard to replace.
