Default 4wd front diff. & axle behavior

My 4x4 isn't working, and I'm working on figuring out what needs repair.
It's got the auto-hubs, but may have more issues too.
After searching the forum and found some helpful tips, and troubleshooting steps. Here's what's been done so far.
Put truck on jackstands with all wheels off the ground. (front wheels removed)

Started it up, engaged 4wd,
the left (driver) axle spins.
the right (passenger) axle does not spin.
tried it a few times with the same result.

With the engine off, hand turning the driveshaft between the x-fer case and the front diff will turn the left axle solidly, but the right axle will either not turn at all or will turn about 1/2 turn then stop. Reversing the direction will get the right axle to turn again about 1/2 turn then stop.

This doesn't seem right to me, but need some input from someone with more experience.

Default Re: 4wd front diff. & axle behavior

your front differential is open, which means power may only be sent to one wheel at a time (this is why when you lift a front tire, the tire in the air spins. the power follows the path of least resistance)
