Rabs
Hello all, new to the forum. I have a 97 Ranger 2wd auto 4 banger. The ABS light came on a while ago. I grounded the diagnostic connector and the light flashed 9 times indicating 'high speed sensor resistance'. I removed the speed sensor from the diff, cleaned it, reinstalled, light still on. Next, I installed a new speed sensor, light STILL on showing the same code, code 9. I'm stuck, what should I do now? Thanks for the help.

Re: Rabs
I don't think the ABS uses that sensor. That is for the speedometer and odometer. The ABS has it's own sensor(s) though someone with more knowledge of the RABS system should confirm that and where they/it is.

Re: Rabs
I thought the speedo/odo sensor was in the tranny. I hope I changed the right one.

Re: Rabs
I do not know a code nine on these trucks. Take it somewhere they can read the full code. It will be four digits. Other then that clean the ring around your rear wheels, this will set a sensor as well. The ABS sensors are in the brakes last I checked, but I have never had to look for them in my Ranger so I could be wrong.

He's reading the ABS codes. You're thinking of engine codes (DTC Codes).

Re: Rabs
Yep, ABS codes. My 2wd Ranger has rear abs only, no wheel sensors I think. Gotta wait for my multimeter to get here so I can measure some resistance. I got the replacement sensor at Advance, should I return it and try to get a Ford part?

I didn't think about ABS codes, but really every ABS code I've had I have read with a code reader as well. But I also work as a mechanic lol
The sensor from Advance should be just as good as Ford's
