Default Developed a Driveline Growl

Just got this thing. Only 18K miles on it and on the way home today it developed a mild driveline growl, almost a vibration. Not related to wheels/tires. It's engine, something on the engine [not AC as I turned that off] or in the drivetrain immediately behind the engine. Since I can hear it as well as feel it both through the steering wheel and my a$$ I am pretty sure it is something ahead of the drivers' position. It is related to rpm and disappears about 2Krpm or so.

4.0L, 5 Speed Auto, 4x4.

Any known issues? Otherwise, obviously I'll need to just take it in.

Truck runs and drives fine but it's one of those sounds / feelings that just makes you think this can't be good . . .

Sounds like either the driveshaft needs balancing (especially if the truck was ridden hard or abused) or your torque converter is low on oil. After checking those things out, I'd also say, since you have a 4x4, to check your front differential fluid and also your bearings.

Take a long screw driver and carefully place it around all the bearing locations with the engine on so the are moving then put the handle of the screw driver to your ear. if you hear really loud grinding noise than try to pinpoint exactly where its at. Check all your fluids at well. also check your cv boots to make sure nothing in that area is touching them or make sure they are not broken. Also lift the front end up and make sure your hubs are fine.

Good answer! Going on Monday unless I find something myself this weekend. Even then, it should be fixed under warranty unless it's just something so simple that going to the dealer is too much hassle.
