Default Interchanging Transmissions, 97-99

Hey, new here, but not new to forums.

My transmission on my '99 2wd 3.0L automatic ranger has recently stopped working. My local junkyard has a '97 ranger of the same style, engine, and perhaps the same transmission. My question is: Would the two transmissions be interchangeable? I currently have the automatic 4R44E transmission, and i would like to just swap the two transmissions.

97' 2wd 3.0L auto transmission in a '99 2wd 3.0L auto ranger. Is it possible? Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: - I just realized i put this in the wrong section, i think. Maybe the mods can move this to the drive-train section? thanks.

If the door sticker says it is a "T" transmission code, I don't see why not.
The 4R44E was used 95-2000 with 4 cyl. and 3.0 & 95-96 in Explorer w/ 4.0.
