Default General clutch maintenance.

Hows it goin guys.

So I just got a 2002 Ranger 5-speed and as far as general car maintenance goes with oil changes, fluids, brakes etc I am pretty familiar with keeping a car in tip top shape. But this here is my first vehicle with a manual gearbox.

Is there any suggestions or tips to keeping the clutch and shifting smooth and to extend the life of these parts?

Any help is appreciated.

Manual transmissions are pretty independent, the best thing you can do to keep it in good shape is drive it right, and as ben10 said make sure the clutch fluid is always full.

Regular clutch fluid (usually a DOT 3 brake fluid) changes and tranny fluid changes will ensure a long and happy life for your truck.

I have used Redline synthetic gear oil in my '01 Ranger since I bought it with 18k miles. Now has 108k miles. Really makes a difference (much smoother shifting). Highly recommend it. Redline says can go 50k miles between changes.

I run ONLY Redline MT-90 in my Jeeps 5spd.
