Unhappy Yoke Assembly front of drive shaft - balancer?

First post - thanks for looking
The metal sleeve around the front ujoint on the drive shaft came loose yesterday. It bangs around against the tranny and drive shaft - can't be good. It appears to be some kind of balancer/weight. I have not seen anything like it before and could not find any info online about it. Has anyone else experienced a problem with these?
I can't find a part number- any help?
Is the metal sleeve essential? I could just remove it.
Is this something best left to drive train pros?
TIA

marlowe

Default Re: Yoke Assembly front of drive shaft - balancer?

I think I found the answer to my own question. I just saw this thread (not sure why I didn't see it earlier).
balancer thread

From what the people said there, it is not a major issue.

Right now I have it held away from the ujoint with cable ties.
