I have the oppurtunity to get free 38" tires, general grabber red letters less than 1k on them. My biggest concern is the gearing in my truck. What do I have to gearit to suit the tires without damaging my transmission? What brand is good? If anyone has links to good companies selling good gears I would appreciate it!

You're only concerned about gearing? What about the stock hubs disintegrating? You're also probably going to be rubbing a good amount, especially up front.

I'm running 4.56 with my 33's right now, and its a pretty good combo. You're going to want to look at 5.13 at a minimum with 38's.

im with Alon, id be re-axling for tires that big. that IFS will hate you with those tires on it. lol as for gears, i think 4.88 is the lowest you can go in the D35 front diff.

Your truck was designed to run little street tires, my edge had something like 28" tires stock. Running 33's is ok on the rangers but it speeds up the wear of components, and many people even run 35's. Stepping up to 38's puts SO much more stress on the stock components, bearings, ball joints, tie rods, steering rack etc. Also, your stock brakes will struggle to stop 38" tires and you'll be going through pads much quicker.

As far as rubbing, you will most likely rub on the back side of the fender, closest to the cab. I am not sure about how the body lift changes things, but bigger tires are not always better. 35's i'd say go ahead but 38's are too much for these trucks with stock suspension components.

Ok, but if I chose to go with 35's is gearing the only thing I would have to worry about then, or hubs and all that too?

well i have seen some 35s on rangers with ifs, depends on how much you wheel and how hard you drive, for the street your fine cause your front axle isnt engages, but for wheeling its going to stress it more, mudding and stuff is going to beat on it a lot. its possible! get those tires and trade them for some 35s!
