Default new to the site. Got an overdrive problem

My ranger drives like a champ to about 50-55 mph with or without OD engaged. Once I get up to speed on the highway and I try and settle her into OD, it just won' t hold the rpm's and I loose speed or instantly rev upto 3500+rpm's To maintain a steady speed of about 65-70.
IT will continue to slip in and out of OD cause it just won't hold the rpm's. Anyone have an idea? Thanks.
