Default A New guy - Trouble starting????

I have a 1994 Ranger. Thursday I went to the store and when i came out the truck would not start. The starter would not turn at all. Finally I pushed the clutch lever hard fully to the floor and the truck started..Its a 1994 with 141,000 miles 3.0 motor with a five speed. Once its running it shifts fine. I'm wondering if I have to bleed the clutch masted or replace some kind of safety switch??I've only had the truck about a month and other that that it runs fine. thanks Tom

There is most likely a neutral safety switch somewhere on the trans that keeps the truck from starting but in certain gears. I have no idea if it would be adjustable on your truck though. I'm only familiar with the automatic NSS's.

thanks for th4e reply shaun-It first happened last thursday-but as long as I can get the truck started by firmly pushing the clutch to the floor-I'm not going to obcess about it. THE truck shifts fine and runs good- so i'll just take one day at a time, thanks Again Tom

No problem! If it gets worse, then let us know and if nobody else seems to know the answer, I will do a little research and see what I can find for you.

i agree it sounds like a neutral safety switch, it should be located on your clutch pedal up in the dash, and you would have to replace it if thats the case, there non adjustable

Thanks for the reply-I'm wondering how it's activated-it's weird that it works when I press it very firmly to the floor....ITs still starting and I had the truck up on ramps and i didnt see anything obviously wrong from the bottow side. I'll look into that nuetral safety switch-thats much be that replacing the slave cyclinder i thinks!!!!thanks again

If the NSS is located on the clutch pedal, then that would definitely explain your problems. On the automatics it's on the transmission. On my F100, it's adjustable, and if it's even slightly out of adjustment, then the truck won't start. So it's a finicky switch for sure. IIRC they don't cost that much at all for a manual.

I have a manual and i did notice the part is just about 30 bucks to buy..I was thinking more clutch slave and looking in that direction. I have to refocus and start researching NSS..thanks again Tom
