that dose bring a lot to mind . why would you put some DS in steel and some in aluminum. I asked my buddy at tommy's diff shop what the advantage was one over the other. here is what he said some people cant drive a clutch as well as other so ford opted for the heaver material for the standard tranny to hold up to the abuse it will take. the only way to do this (abuse the drive shaft ) to a auto tranny would be rev motor to like 3 grand and drop it in to gear is like the same abuse as using a clutch every day. so thats why he said ford did this and it dose make sense or seems like its pliable. and if you weigh them he said the weight is the same aluminum only like three pounds difference

ya and tom said on the cars there was but not on the trucks so i dont know he was wrong on the erg valve and my axial

Just as an FYI: removing 10lbs of rotational weight is equal to removing 100lbs of curb weight.

So if the Ranger with the aluminum D/S is only 3-4lbs than the steel one. That still = 30-40lbs of curb weight reduction.
