Question Aluminum driveshaft only certain Rangers??

Someone said that all Rangers 02 & up came with aluminum DS.

Well I was under mine for it's 1st oil change today & the DS is definatley a steel one.

I know most of the Ford Explorers come with the aluminum DSs.

I would like an aluminum driveshaft for my truck. Less weight & less rotational mass.

Can you measure yours from U-joint to U-joint? You have the 4.0 & I have the 2.3

My 2003 had a steel shaft from the factory. For whatever reason, the steel shaft seems to be more common on manual trucks than automatics.

I have seen it done on 4x4s but I don't know if, in all cases, the 2WD manual and automatic have the same tranny length and slip yoke specs. If all else is equivalent, you'd need to get a replacement from a Ranger with the same wheelbase - 112, 118 or 126".

To be honest, I wouldn't think that, from a performance point of view, there is any noticeable difference between the two types.

It has been proven time after time at our Mustang Dyno days that replacing the steel D/S with an aluminum one nets an average 10RWHP.

Maybe that's why ford only puts the aluminum one behind the automatics, since a manual transmission uses less power which = less gas?
