You probably have a 7.5" get a 8.8 out of any 4.0 ranger or the one out of a exploder but you will have to flip the shock and leaf mounts

8.8 with fatty gears like 4.10s or 4.56s

3.73s would be fine with a 5.0 and help mpg's vs higher but this is comeing from the guy with 4.88s

I actually got higher MPGs with my 4.10s rather my 3.73s.
and hes kicking higher end torque.

yea but you have no torque i have a buddy with the same motor a 5SPD and 3.73's with 30x9.5 he gets 26MPG out of his driving it conservatively. depends on alot of things with the way that motor is setup and the size of a ranger 3.73s would be plenty for 31's 4.10s and 31"s would get into that it feels like to much category. this also all depends on the trans thrown into the mix hell if he were to stuff a powerglide in and run radials i would say 3.27s but i doubt that so 3.73s maybe 4.10s. 4.30s and 4.56s will be major overkill unless running a 37" tire. remember there is a reason most of the 5.0 exploders came with 3.73s or higher (numerically lower)
