i was changing the front diff oil a while ago and noticed theres a rubber hose that leads to the top off the front diff and is clamped down on a spicket sort of thing, it looks normal and not rigged and have no idea what that would be for? any ideas?

actually, rear diff do have a vent also. I guess to vent any pressure that build up. in theory, if you axle seals are good and diff cover, and pinion seal there would be no place for pressure to escape

Your oil heats and expands, if you don't have a vent the oil can also bubble up from the compressed air that is now in your differential, oil with bubbles doesn't protect so well. It also helps dissapate heat, although in a minute way.

This^^^ also if the pressure rises in the diff without a place to vent the pressure will eventually force the fluid past the axle/ pinion seals. its a good idea to periodicly check the axle breathers to be sure they are free of obstructions.
