5 Speed For a 4
Currently I have whatever factory 4speed came behind the 2.3L in my 1983.
While it's plenty reliable as a tranny, it leaves more than a little lacking for a 5th gear (being at 85mph at 4400RPMS SUCKS).
I know several 5 speeds we're put behind the same motor. Can anyone tell me what year/tranny/spline count/size I should look for as far as a compatable transmission?
I'm looking at several options but I plan on keeping the 2.3L block in it forever.
I have no problem fabbing up a new crossmember/ mount to support the unit, and making the shifter fit. The only issues I'm worried about are the bellhousing bolt pattern and spline count. And overall length (driveshaft determination as I'm 2wd!)
Any and all help is appreciated
