Default Manually Switch out of 4wd

I don't know if someone already posted this, I searched the forum for an hour with no luck. My 2001 Ford Ranger Edge is stuck in 4wd and no light is coming on. To make matters worse the O/D light is flashing on and off. Right now I'm worried about getting it out of 4wd. I know there is a way to do it manually, as in getting underneath the truck and doing it that way. I just don't know how. Can anyone walk me through it or possibly point me in the right direction for references on how to do that?

i know there is a way. you have to remove the shift motor and turn the actuator by hand, but ive never done it. if it were mine id just drop the front drive shaft.

A buddy of mine knew how. You do have to remove the motor and turn it by hand which is really easy. It even says right there on the transfer case as you remove the motor which way to turn it for 2H or 4H.

x2 on removing the shift motor. I had to do it once when someone stole my bezel out of my truck, it had been in low range since we were pulling a motorcyle out the basement with it . Anyhow, just had to pop off the shift motor and turn it manually.
