Almost as bad…your leak could be the torque converter itself, front pump seal or pump mounting screw on the inside of the bellhousing. I have no idea how to get to any of those parts with the transmission still in the truck.

are you talkin about the tranny pan gasket or the leak between the oil pan and the tranny?...because the leak between the oil pan and tranny is minor, not a problem yet! lol but right now the big problem is getting the new gasket on the tranny pan and keeping it from leaking....then the leak between the oil pan and tranny that is not a major concern now because the leak leaves no spot on the ground but will need fixed eventually thank you all for the advise and the horrible news lol on a side note... is 100 bucks a reasonable to have the gasket on the tranny pan replaced? thats what the mechanic quoted me and i laughed at him it takes an hour or so to do and a 8 dollar part ?....because if this attempt fails im having a shop do it

If you take your time and torque the bolts down to correct spec, you shouldn't have a problem. As for your leak at the front, it is possible for the fluid leaking from the gasket to slosh around and get on other things.

take your time torque the bolts down properly and make sure that when you pull the tranny pan off to let it drip for a couple of hours to make sure that it gets as much of the old fluid out as possible and to make sure you can keep the gasket surface clean and dry... yeah the shop will charge you about that to do it just because they can... you can do it yourself for like 20 bucks....

yeah i already did it but i made major mistakes 3 weeks ago or so....i didnot wipe it and let it dry, i used the wrong gasket sealent and way too much and did not set bolts at right torque and in a patterned sequence....so tommorrow is the big day after work....if this attempt fails im afraid im gonna have to pay a shop...but now having all the knowlege you guys and others gave me im comfident....as far as the heatshield idea...went to an exaust specalist they said heat shields are basically worthless and it will not affect my gasket so less money i have to put into the job i guess wish me luck lol

Thumbs up Re: a new problem has arose

ok so we did it! again lol this time we gave it an hour and a half to dry wiping occasionally, the only problem that we encountered was the torque wrench said if using extensions you have to calculate it....so we just used a deep well socket i hope it was approx the right torque.... so far no leak we did the bolts in sequence didnt over tighten used minimal amount of gasket sealer fingers are crossed
