I have a 96 ranger 3.0 and the trans don't want to work , don't take any gear / reverse. I check the fluid and was over the limit by far ( 1 1/2 " ) . I take out like 32 oz. Then when i check again the stick don't show any fluid. Its weird . Right know i drop again like 16 oz and check and don't mark anything in the stick.

I add like 20 oz. , in this time fluid mark goes a little higher than the crossmark in the stick but i don't think that is big deal. The O/D light is blinking too.
If I have to take out the transmission to repair, its could be a option to put any other trans from other car that work great with the ranger and don't need any mods.
Its a 96 ranger 2wd 3.0.

If you've been driving the truck with the O/D Off light flashing, then that's not too good for the trans. No other trans will fit in your truck except another similar trans from a Ranger or Mazda B-Series truck with a 3.0, and maybe the 2.3/2.5.

As for the fluid, have you been checking the fluid while the truck is hot, and has gone through the gears? Checking the fluid cold doesn't really get you an accurate reading, and within the time it took you to remove the excess fluid, the trans could have cooled enough to make the fluid cool, resulting in your lower reading.
