Default Lets see if this starts a war.....

SO I have my FX4 LII, and it needs brakes. I was just going to go to the nearest autozone (or whatever podunk auto parts store is in this town that Im working in now), and get the parts. One of the guys in my crew then says I should get on evilbay and find a package on there since I can get a cross drilled and slotted rotor set, and the pads for around 100 bucks. Considering podunk auto wants about 220 for just front parts, this sounds like a decent idea but has anbody used evilbay brake parts? I dont want pads starting on fire of my rotors desintigrating in 10k miles. Any thoughts would be appreciated.....

this is just my opinion but i wouldnt trust my life and my family's or the life of others around me to cheapo ebay brakes. when you buy from a local store you at least know what you are getting. stuff like LED third brake lights and sweet $20 chips that give you 100 extra HP are fine from ebay but id never buy something like brakes or any other important safety product from there.

Buying off ebay isn't an issue as long as you buy brand name products with a good reputation. Just make sure the seller has good reviews too.

Watch the shipping costs too. Sometimes the price is fantastic for the item but the shipping for that item is insane.

I have to agree with pat on this one, I would not trust those $100 kits with my worst enemy. Its just not worth it. Besides, do you really have to have drilled and slotted rotors? its not a race car. I personally buy from autozone just because they have a no questions asked policy, if the brakes fail, you bring them in and they are replaced for free. Shit, I got brand new brakes on my plow truck becuase I have warrantied parts, yes granted it was not the right thing to do but money was tight and my brakes were shot.

Last set of front rotors and pads I bought were from there. They did not last but maybe 15-20K miles

Get Wagners from Advance. The ebay kits are nice if they are name brand parts though. Or Rockauto.com..

You should stay away from slotted and cross drilled. So much material has been removed, that they are prone to cracking. Slotted only is the way to go. +1 on staying away from unknown brands.

Agree with wagners. I have the thermoquiet ceramics on the front and thermoquiets (regular) on the back and love them

It depends on how they are drilled and how many holes they have. I had a set of United cross drilled and slotted rotors (NAPA) on my last CR-V for several years with no problems.

The holes must be counter sunk and I wouldn't go with a rotor with more holes than this as an example:

Something like this is just asking for trouble:

This is assuming the OP is doing something that requires better stopping power like doing a lot of heavy hauling on steep hills. Otherwise, I would just stick with what Ford put on the vehicle.
