So i have a 2003 2wd v6 3.0 flex fuel ranger, when i purchased the vehicle, there was lots of what appeared to be grease on the wheel/rim. this is on the back passenger side.
I didnt know whats was up, but thankfully friends and neighbors recognized the issue and told me that i needed to replace or repack and seal my bearings.
So of course the do-it-yourself-er that i am
went to auto zone and tried to just go ahead and purchase new bearings. Well the counter guy told me that there's two different sizes of bearings, and that i gotta take it apart and look at the to find out which one i need.
The how to on this site didnt say anything about bearings being a certain size, and from what diagrams i found, it seemd like both sizes were used.
IS this accurate?
Also, The recommended bearings of the posters as far as quality was Timken, so i went to rock auto to find that yes there is two different size bearings, but there is also what looks like a bearing/ hub assembly.
so im not quite sure what to purchase to do the job.
And is there anything else i should do while im already there?
i would really like to work on my brakes, seems like the obvious answer
Im assuming that the original owner of the vehicle didn't do proper routine maintenance, as Ive rebuilt the transmission and replaced some other things since the purchase a year ago.
