You should be fine if you run 4.10, but I agree with Patrick, go 4.56 if you ever wanna run 35's.

not at all with 35s the bigger tire balances the lower gear

4.10s and 35s on the auto will suck. 4.56's will do alot better and allow him to still have some form of OD

gears wont screw up your MPG's, the 33's or 35's will. gears counter act the larger tires.

If most driving at highway speeds= 4.10, most driving having fun= 4.56.

With axles assemblies being as cheap as they are you can have 2 and swap them out as easy as use old farts swapped out 9" pumpkins for weekend play and then commute during week, you can get swap down to an hour after practice and knowing what tools to have handy.

the 8.8 isnt nearly as easy to swap gears on as the 9". its def not a matter of slapping gears in and out in a matter of minutes. not to mention if his truck is 4x4 you have to completely remove the front diff center section to swap the gears which involves disassembling the front suspension. also, i had 33's with 4.10s and it sucked, swapping to 4.56 gears was one of the best things i did to my truck. the all around drive ability is awesome again and i get better mileage than i did with 4.10's and 33's, also the drivetrain is much happier.
