Four gears or five? That will help them help you or at least narrow it down. I think I've seen mention of two of each type on here.

I think Ford says either 50K or 60K.

I just replaced the trans fluid and filter in my 5R55E, and it was amazing how dirty the filter was. My truck only has 46,500 on it.

Thanks Fordziall!
I have 50K so I will do that. Was it pretty straight forward to do? Any tips would be appreciated.

It's no different than any other trans, it does require some patience to avoid the full fluid bath. It is nearly impossible to avoid a little fluid spill though, so don't expect to end up with clean floors. Also, factory capacity is 10 quarts. However, this is only if your drain the TC, and allow everything to droop out. Even then, you'll still probably have fluid in a few spots, so expect a quart or two to remain in the trans if you don't flush it. Other than that, just take your time, and make sure you're extra careful with the new gasket. Don't forget to get all the old gasket surfaces off the pan, as well as the trans. Make sure the O-rings from the old filter come down with old filter, and aren't stuck to the trans. Make sure you put new O-rings on the new filter, they should come with the filter.

yeah, that should be a 5R55E, but for future reference, or if someone else stumbles across this thread in the future, there's a spot on the driver's door jamb sticker where it says trans or TR or something along those lines. under it, there is a letter, which corresponds to the transmission model. 5R55E would be trans code D.
