Default 2WD to 4WD TTB conversion

I have the whole front suspension out of my 2WD ranger and I want to go 4WD with it and I don't want SAS because of the fabrication factor. I have limited resources and don't really want to mess with Fab. I also know that someone is going to get on here and say well duh... save for a 4X4 and I don't want that either because I already have this truck torn apart and the engine i'm putting in is not traditionally known for having four wheel drive but I know there are 2.3 4X4 rangers out there and was wondering if anyone could help with the differences or advice about the swap. BTW it will be running 33" tires so im not worried about breaking an axle.

It's your lucky day. It's mainly a bolt in swap if you have all the parts. You will need the D28 or D35 TTB axle (Depends upon year of the truck), the T-Case, a 4x4 transmission, and possibly a new trans cross member. I may be forgetting a few things, but that's the gist of it.

Funny, I have kind of the same question, hopefully someone can answer it for me. As everyone can see from my signature block I have a 2008 Ranger Sport 4X2 and I want to convert it to 4X4. I just want to know what I need to buy and what I need to do to convert it. Also, if I do the conversion will it be permanently 4X4 with manually locking front hubs or how will it work. I'm pretty new to the vehicle modification game. I hope this isn't too dumb of a question. I also really don't want to have to save to get a new truck. I really like the one I have now and I'm not ready to get rid of it just yet.........and besides I would love to be able to do this work on it and be able to call it mine.

Thanks!

2008 is getting pretty new for my mind, but luckily, the Edge/Sport is an easy swap as well, as they are basically 4x4's without the switch, transfer case, and D35. They even have the mounting points for everything. The newer trucks use an auto locking system, I think it's shift on the fly. You won't have to get out and manually lock your hubs.

So let me make sure I understand this right, basically all I have to do is get a 4X4 transmission, new front axel and the electronics and peripherals to be able to engage the front axel?
