Default Switching Gear Ratios...

Hey guys I'm new to this site and think its great.. so i thought you guys could give me advise. i have a 95 2.3 XLT ranger. My rear axle is a 7.5 and my ring and pinion is 3.73. I'm looking into switching to lower gear ratio for gas mileage... i was wondering if you guys have lower gears in your rangers and are u happy with it? Hows the truck perform?? hopefully some one out there can help me ha.
i know a kid who has a B2200 and he switched the gears in his tranny and is really happy and it brought his rpms down and is getting better mpgs..
Thanks A lot guys
P.s i would put pictures up but they are all too big so im still working on that....

If you do a lot of hwy driving, it would definitely help gas mileage some. I'd maybe go with 3.27s (somewhere in that ballpark). 2.73s would help a ton, but you would lose quite a bit of take off power.

I have a 3.0V6 with 3.45s in my '95 Ranger. The RPMs stay pretty low. The truck is basically a dog as it is, so I probably wouldn't go with any lower gears. But I'm glad it's got the 3.45s versus the more common 3.73s. I'll take gas mileage over performance in most instances.

Just asking, but what truck uses 3.45s as gearing? I want to know what truck out of a boneyard I'd have to pull an axle from, in order to make that kind of change.
