According to Randys R&P you have a Dana 35, used in the Ranger from 98-11, the Dana 28 was used from 83-97

Here is a pic also of axle IDs

yes you have the Dana 35, not exactly the same as the dana 35 in front of jeeps but similar.

When did Jeep start putting a Dana 35 in as a front axle? Far as I know, never. All Wranglers from 1987 had Dana 30 front/ Dana 35 rear. All Cherokees, dana 30 front, and either a chrysler 8.25 or that other weird one in the newer (97-01) cherokees

The Dana 28 was ditched back in like 1990 or so. Anything after has a D35.

Dana 28 was a ttb axle

After 90....most were Dana 35 ttb

Some were hybrid 28/35 (35 housing with 28 guts)

Easiest way to tell is by looking at the diff.....
if it looks like a 35 but has no cooling fins....its got 28 guts

anything after 97 has the 35....(thats when they switched to IFS)
