Default Gear ratio recommendation

i got axle code 98 gears, which are supposedly 4.56 gears by the axle code thread. but i wanna get more mileage. right now if i drive about 20 miles, it uses up slightly less than a 8th in a mix of 45-55 mph roads. should i put in diff gears, like 3.71 gears to help with the mileage, or is it not worth it? i aint gonna put huge tires on

----------

*3.73 gears

There not very common, but a 98 code is 4.56 gears.

Heres a link.

I've seen a few with them in it, but not stock lol. But like I said, I'd be willing to trade gears if possible, depending on the miles.

its got like 114000 miles. and 45 mph is when rpms are lowest for od. i may keep the gears and max out my t bars, put a bl on, and slap on some 35s to balance out the ratio. if i run 35s with 4.56s, its lik stock tires with 3.73s. i think that sounds bout right

it is however 4.56's will be better with 33s you wont be happy with torque and 35s

but then i gotta go through all that trouble to regear. heres my situation with this ranger: i hate that stock height look on trucks. thats why i wanna lift it. and these 4.56s kinda put me in a tough spot, cuz i wanna lift it but i dont got the money for a SL, and idk wat to do to hide the ugliness of a BL. but either way, i want height

only if you can push 40+ HP out of it which will cost more than 4.88s
