Default HELP!!! 7.5" diff help

My dad is swapping out his gears in his rear end. He gets in a big yank and now he has a spacer/washer that he has no idea where it goes. Now I have to venture out in the snow stormto rescue his ass, but I dont know where the washer goes either. Its about 1" diam and about 1/4" deep. 1/8" in thickness.

If anyone has a parts breakdown diagram of the 7.5" rear end please send it to me! Thanks guys

no not the crush sleeve. Here is a pic from my phone, not the clearest but you can see it. He also says its shinning like it ahs been in the inside, noto exposed to anything.

----------

He has only found (1) dont know if there might be (2). I tried finding a parts diagram online but have has no luck.

----------

He also said that he found it by the drivers side tire (or where the tire would have been) leading him to beleive it fell out of the carrier while he was hammering the old ring gear off. and rolled over that way. It could also be that maybe this was something that was on his cluttered ass bench that rolled off and over there while he was beating on the ring gear...?

----------

By the way, did I mention I have to go to GR...!!!! A good hour or more in this weather!

UPDATE! so it turns out that the "spacer" was from something in my dads toolbox, he found another one in the box late this week.

Also, his rearend is now howling. I dont think he used a new crush sleeve and therfore does not have the proper pre-load on the pinion. This is just another case of his impatience to do things. He calls me this morning just a bitching about how the gears are fucked, and how he got screwed on the gears, I told him that the gears are fine, its the install that is the problem.

Now I have to go to GR this weekend, thro out all our plans, to fix his truck. Hopefully its just something simple. GRRRRRR!!!

howling is normally caused by improper gear mesh or backlash. improper preload wont help but that usually doesnt cause howling.

well, he says howling, doesnt mean thats what it is. he has a bad sense of what things sound like. It might be a whirring sound. Also, he packed the pinion bearings with grease. When I changed my gears the bearings did not have grease and I dont think they are suppose to. anyhow, he said he cleaned them of the grease, but I think he is just saying that so he dont look like a *******. But I would rather look the ******* then have my gears fail!

I did a gear install/swap before just reusing the old crush sleeve and not checking any backlash, etc..

It howled at certain speeds. I didn't keep the rear end long enough to find out how long it lasted like that..Probably would have lasted a while, just annoying. I'd make sure he got the pinion nut tight enough. They take a lot of torque - even if the crush sleave is already crushed. I'd check that before tearing back into it.

I put a trac-lok in my rear end last week. Didnt change the gears or touch the pinion though. Luckily the rear end doesn't make any noises. Hopefully I'm good..

well I got another question for anyone who has an answer

when my dad put his gears in, he nothced the spider gear pin. Now, normally you would buy a notched cross pin and install before the ring gear. Well, since he was in a big F*CKING YANK and put the ring gear on first and did not want to tear it back apart, he decided to grind the ENITIRE cross pin in half. So it went from round to half-round.

I had told him to just notch it so he could clip the axles.

Does anyone know if the half-round has any effect on the spider gears?

It went from this -> O <- to this ->D <-
