Not my area, but I recall diffs causing shaking when they needed to be attended to, fluid etc. Is it possible that you front drive Diff has not been used and the fluid is compromised.
I know and understand the mechanics of the hubs, balls, CV's. These things would be prevalent at all times, not just during 4x4 operation. Balls will cause quick short jerk, hubs will cause bad noises and sloppy steering, CV's will also make funny noises, unless you have seized CV's which would be more than noticeable upon inspection. I would suggest changing the fluid.

He doesnt have CV's. He is a TTB setup in the front.

OP, I would seriously check out your front drive shaft. Check if there is any play in it. Also check the front pinion bearing. See if there is excess clunking/movement.

Also, what speeds are you hitting when you feel the shake?

Cheers, hope you find the problem.

Ahh, see told you twasn't my area, but the input about the diff's, is what I felt it could have been. Had a couple back and forths at the track, they say motor, I say no, they say motor, I say piss off. It was diff. . . . .
