Okay guys, so my owner's manual says that my truck takes 10 quarts of Mercon V. However, I find that kinda high considering the engine only takes 4.5 quarts. Is this number right? Anybody know what the fluid capacity for the torque converter is? Thanks guys.

Engine and transmission are two totally different things.

Yes, the transmission takes that amount.

10 quarts if the toruqe converter is drained.
4 quarts is the pan is drained.

When I did my girl friend's transmission, it took five quarts both times. Of course, I had it up on ramps, so that might be why. In any case, the Haynes manual lists 10 quarts total capacity, so if you are looking to do a complete fluid change, you are looking at 10 quarts. You'll have to drop the pan twice to do it. Once, drive it some and then again. I didn't bother with the filter until after the second change.
