Default 4r55e And 5r55e ??

Whats the differance? one a 4sp and the outher a 5sp? I bought a parts truck with a new trans and the recepits say its a 4r55e. It is the exact same truck as mine. 01 super cab,4x4 4.0. i didn't think the 4.0's had 4r55e's in 01? anyhow i put the tranny in my truck and it works fine. cept my abs light is on, which could be my drivers front sensor wires again. havn't check them out yet. BUT my ? is, shouldn't i have a lght on or something since my truck had the 5r55e in it and now it has a 4r55e. Just surprised the computer knows what to do without the extra gear.

Are you absolutely sure you took out a 5R and installed a 4R? The computer is different... You may have installed a 5R44E which is different torque converter and minus one clutch plate in direct clutch drum

well you are right one is a 4 spd the other a 5 spd. the 55/44 stands for the torque ratings. 440lbs vs 550lbs

you may have had the 4r44e and and put in a 4r55e. The computer should still work fine if this is the case.

If you had a 4r and put in a 5r then there is going to be a problem with the TCC locking out. I dont think the 5r actually has another gear rather the computer locks up the TC to make it think there is another gear. I could be wrong on this tho.

Actually in the 5R it has a double apply, technically being a double overdrive

well i no my truck had a 5r55e in it. cause when i had the scanner hooked up thats what the scanner was reading it as. and it shifted 5 times then the TC loking in. and the tranny i put in the recipts say 4r55e, and i only count 4 shifts then the TC locking in. it works fine, but i have a abs light on now. And its not the drivers front wires like the last time.

and the trannys look identcal to each outher. i had them side by side when they were out. same sensors, everything pluged right in.

well how do you count your shifts? in my 5r55e there were 4 shifts while driving plus the inital shift into drive. if I remember correctly.... I would say that is 5 spd. And I would also say that one manual shift and 3 trans shifts would be a 4 spd.

also, is it possible that the reciept has an error...? maybe just a typo...?

my old trans shifted 5 times, new trans shifts 4 times. i fixed my abs light. I pushed the plugs down on the tranny and the light went out. Must had one not pluged in ll the way?

There is no physical way possible that pushing the trans connectors down could shut your ABS light off. The ABS is your brake system, not your trans system. The ABS system has sensors on the wheels. You may have touched one of those the right way, or you may have knocked them into place on a bump, but if not, then the light will probably be back.

the speed sensor plug on the tailshaft wouldn't have something to do with it??

I highly doubt it, your ABS system has to do with how the brakes react to a sudden stop. The ABS sensors on the wheels measure the wheel speed, the speed sensor on the trans is for the computer's general purposes.

yeah i know what the abs does and how it works, LOL. i just kinda thought that maybe that speed sensor on the trans was looped in there some how. But I dunno the light hasn't come back on and the abs works fine. Works on these super icy roads really well. Hopefullly it was just a werid thing and it won't come back on. LOL.

The new tranny seems to be holding up fine. have bout 290 miles on it so far, shifts like it should and way better then the last one i put in there.
