Default 8.8 vs. 7.5

Hey guys, ive never really looked in to this but what the difference between 8.8 and 7.5?

The numbers refer to the diameter of the ring gear.

The 8.8 is a stronger gear set, so if you are planning on putting down some serious power, that's the rear end you want. Contrary to poular belief though, the axles are not any stronger unless you go up to a 31-spline set.

The difference is 1.3. Seriously though explorers 8.8 have bigger axleshafts compared to say the mustang and the are a bolt on flip kit

Spline count isnt the only thing that determines strength. Larger ring gear means larger carrier which means larger side gears and spiders which means a stronger unit all together.
