Default Help! Stuck in 4 wheel low

I drove into a ditch used 4 wheel low to get out, once i got out i was stuck in 4 low. Now i tried driving fast in reverse and forwards also tried disconnecting the battery and still the light wont go out and it is still in 4 low. I'm no mechanic and don't have much experience so i need as much help as i can get. Thanks.

Don't know if this will help but I drive a 04 Ford Ranger Edge and its uses a button to switch into 4 wheel drive.

On my 09 you need to be in neutral to put it in or out of 4 wheel low and wait for the light to go out.I"m not there so I don't know what you've tried?

On every 4x4 i've driven or read the manual to, you need to put the trans in neutral to shift into and out of 4x4 low.
To shift into 4x4 low the transfer case needs to go into neutral then into low/high, and if the trans is still in drive, it will cause the drive shaft to the transfer case to spin, thus causing grinding when it finally shifts into or out of 4x4 low.

truck in neutral and foot firmly on the brake to shift out..

if you are doing that then the shift motor took a crap have some one tap on it with a hammer while your on the brake and in neutral if that dont work you need a new one

Yesterday, I made a run on a gravel road in 4x4 low, and discovered I couldn't get it out of 4x4 low. I drove home that way, and this morning read your responses on how to get it out of 4x4 low. I went to the truck and low and behold it worked. Thank you for the information. Ricksvstar

hopefully you havnt messed up your transfer case. driving in 4x4 on the road is hard and can destroy a t-case.

4x4 should only be used in low traction situations like dirt/mud/sand/ice/snow. never on dry pavement

I know it can't be used on pavement, it made me very nervous on the way home, it wasn't all that far. I used to own a Suzuki Samuria, and belonged to Ottawa Valley Off roaders for 3 years. It had a 4" inch suspension lift, pollyurethane bushings, block was bored 10 thou. the head was all redone. A super trap exhaust, and K&N filter, 31 10.50 mud tires. Also 3" drop pitman arm, and Rancho steering stabilzer. I sure do miss that truck, had lots of fun with it.

i had the same problem and i tried all the things you tried you need to just reverse slowly until it comes out and you only need 4 low if you are on very slipery ground and going up a steep hill you should pretty much be able to do everything else in 4 high so reverse slowly and the take your foot off the gas allowing the truck to jerk and the try it going forward and then take your foot off the gas allowing it to jerk this worked for me ok?

For it to "overspin" it would had to have broke something. In any event, pop off the motor, grab a pair of channel locks and turn the t-case by hand. It is marked on the T-case the postion of each.

Are you Manual - Auto..(trans)

I have read all of the responses and suggestions on how to get out of 4wd lo.
I have a 1999 ranger 4x4, 5 speed, manual hubs. I was on the highway at about 60 and suddenly I was what seemed to be neutral. Pulled over, had the truck towed home. Next day went to check it out and it was stuck in 4 wheel lo.
Tried the battery disconnect, manually shifted into 2wd on the end of the transfer case where the actuator fits up, replaced the actuator with a good tested used, when the actuator is wired up but not mounted the switch will move the motor to the appropriate position. I am at my wits end, not that there was an enormous amount of wit to spend, I would welcome any help.
