gear lube
my 1994 ford ranger is low on gear lube what kind should i buy its a 4 speed with over drive. I was also reading something about atf what does that mean?

For the transmission or the differential and do you have 4X4? If it's the transmission, check your owner's manual if you have one. Most use MerconV but there were earlier ones that used a gear oil. For the differential, I think it's 80W90 but it depends on the year and the axle you have. With 4x4, the front is different from the back, I think it's 75W90.

as Mike stated. trans uses Mercon 5 ATF... 4 qts.. be sure to clean the magnetic drain plug
