Auto trans problem. STALLING
I have a 93 Ford Ranger 2.3L Automatic RWD the problem I'm having is when I put it in gear it dies. The motor is running fine as long as it's in park or neutral, revs normal everything is fine with the motor, so it's not that. But it is a transmission problem. Can anyone shed some light on this problem or give me some ideas of some things I could check? I'm new here but not to car repair so any help would be appreciated.

Is this every single time? If you can get it to move, does it run fine everywhere else?

Have you checked the fluid level or had it serviced anytime in the recent history of the truck?

Re: Auto trans problem. STALLING
I'm gonna just throw this out there. It may be the problem it may not. But when my first Idle Air Control valve went out, whenever I shifted the truck into reverse, the idle would fluctuate rapidly, to the point of almost killing the truck. A few times I was actually able to kill it if I applied the gas in reverse. So part of me says Idle Air Control valve. But it could still be something else.

Do you have a CEL on? If not, no, the IAC doesn't always trip the CEL light since it's still a relatively mechanical part.
