Default Four wheel drive problem

2007 Ford Ranger Sport 4x4

Symptoms:

Four wheel drive clunks when under load, kicks out and goes into to two wheel drive until wheels come to complete stop.

Turning sharp corners with 4x4 engaged, 4x4 clunks and kicks out.

Randomly shuts off during normally driving, gives me a bang and it turns off.

Back story, I brought it into Ford as soon as the symptoms started. They told me the crappy ass Goodyears were worn out and causing the 4x4 to bind and kick out. I told them if I replaced the tires will they cover it under warranty? They told me if the same symptoms were there they would replace them. Replaced the tires a month later, they told me they would not cover it. Charged me 200 bucks to tell me the same thing. Warranty is long gone now, 80k miles. So that leaves me to fix it myself. Any ideas one what this could be? It has to go in and get new plugs wires and all the fluids dropped. Is this an easy fix or long painful and expensive? It makes this truck worthless in the winter and it needs to be fixed.

Thanks in advance.

That sounds like something's not fully engaging in the transfer case. Unfortunately I don't know nearly enough to be of much more help beyond asking if it's a manual or electronic transfer case. Others with more in-depth knowledge should be able to be of more assistance.

Welcome to FRF btw!

etc. I'm not sure how worn tires would cause it to bind and kick out.
