this kid i know has something like that in his eclipse, you can switch from auto to manual, it's kinda cool i guess. But i could see if it broke, it would be a good expensive fix.


i have a manual, i kinda like it. though when im really tired i don't really like to shift all the time.
90 ranger 2.9 v6, 5 speed
regular cab long box 2wd.
feature mods-
short ram intake, dynomax exhaust, homade bull guard here soon, 2" body lift 4" suspension lift, 33 bfg all terains.
selling the truck this summer and buying a new ranger hopefully.

i did not buy a f150 because they have no manual option. finding a manual ranger was even a bit of a pita.
i am a driver. not a commuter. i have a manual.

i did not think i should waste thread space on this so figured since I stated my clutch is shot above, that I would put this here.

Geez i love my Manual. The 4L is so torquey I have not problem going in 5th just cruising around town with truck at 1400 RPM. Its great. I still have to adjust to being smooth on 1-2 shift though. Its harder to shift from 1st to 2nd then to take off smooth lol.

I would say from driving a stick when I was 14 learning how to drive on one, I think everyone should learn how to drive on a manual. It makes you pay more attention to the vehicle and what's going on around you (or maybe that's just me). I'll drive a manual until me legs won't let me anymore.

My first truck was an automatic 4L V6... Loved that truck! Some lady T-bones me and the truck was wrote off. Last year I got the exact same truck but with manual tranny and it is muuuch better! I've owned my auto tran for 3 years without a problem and this one has been almost a year with no problems. So either or seems sturdy and do not like pavement and flat ground. I've put both through the wringer but when it comes down to the amount of extra control I have over my RPM's now... Manual all the way!
2008 4.0L V6 4x4(wrecked) 2010 4L V6 sport 4x4 (man shift). Gold stamp only gets you so high 'less ya got 4 wheel drive!

I switched to am manual years ago and I have a hard time not buying one. My 06 ranger I just bought was a auto and I would have loved a manual. Better gas mileage cheaper to repair* in most cases. Better control of vehicle by far. I also drive a nice 10 spd Kenworth for a living so I get a lot of shifting in.

I would recommend a manual, to most people but there are many out there I would not trust in a manual.

I absolutely hate that they are straying away from manual. I feel just about every model of car should have manual option

I have 196k on my 5spd. I love the 5spd, but hate one thing about it, the pervious owner, which happens to be my dad, sucks at driving a stick shift. Pretty much my 2nd gear synco is gone, and always does hard shifts into second gear, and requires a lot of force, causing my wrist to hurt. Worst thing, is with 3.73s, it causes me to always shift into second gear at low speeds when driving around areas with slow speed limits. Pretty much I use second gear more so then any other gear besides 1st. Taking off from stop lights is a pain in my ass because I can't just "slam" it into second gear fast, without it slamming into gear, requiring me to wait a second for rpms to match up, then by the time i start letting go of the clutch, the rpms dip a few hundred too low, requiring me to rev match before releasing the clutch, all this takes an extra few seconds. Example, at a stoplight, turns green, I go in first gear, get to speed to shift, 10mph, then have to wait 3seconds before I'm back on the gas accerlating, it looks as if I go fast, then brake for no reason (not really braking) and during this three seconds, the car first sees me acceralting, doesn't pay attention that I have a 3second pause, and is on my ass almost hitting me, and this happens 30times a drive to work or school, etc. causes a lot of stress, people almost hitting me, or getting pissed off and hitting their horn. Double clutching doesn't help much, it likes it best when I get on the gas in 1st gear, then double clutch at 3k rpm and have to double clutch super fast, where i can only double clutch half way, but still slams into 2nd gear. I wish my truck was an auto from 1st to 2nd gear, then back to normal 5speed after that.

Myh automatic lost reverse at 77,000 miles and has been a problem since even before I bought the truck.

So now I'm swapping in a 5-speed, and ridding myself of the autotragic.
