Unhappy 3 wheel drive?

Here's the deal...last snow we had I put the truck in 4X4, and i have manual warn locking hubs. When going over 35mph you would hear clicking/grinding so I figured the hubs had to much grease in them. CLeaned out the hubs with brake cleaner really well and made sure that they fully go to free and lock. Here's the real fun part...the driver's side wheel won't turn, but the passenger's side wheel does. Both hubs engage the axles, checked that when I finished cleaning them and putting them back on. No luck, still made the sounds after a hub cleaning. I'm thinking the gears in the front diff are stripped or competely shot. How much of a pain is it to change in new gears, how do I check them, how much lighter is my wallet going to get? I've never worked with the internals on a diff before and have no clue what I'm looking for so I figured ask the Ranger Gods!

it doesnt make any sense but check your cv joint on the drivers side. my friends truck is doing the exact same thing and his cv is worn really bad. puttin a new one in soon.

ps he has a 86 1/2 ton chevy.

Thanks, but everything is universals on the 93, found out what it was though. The wire connection to the transfer case was shorting out. Looked like the connectors had some corrosion in them and it was only going into 4 wheel occationally. Cleaned up the connectors and wrapped them with some shrink tube. Problem fixed!

Unhappy Re: 3 wheel drive?

revisiting the issue...apparently the problem wasn't only the wiring. When doing over 35 directly under the drivers seat you will hear loud clicking and get a vibration in the cab. It seems like the transfer case is slipping or not fully engaging if that makes sense. Not exactly sure if our transfer cases are rebuildable, but I looked them up and not really up for spending almost a grand for a new one, and don't want to chance a junkyard one if they aren't rebuildable. Any ideas, thoughts?
