Re: has any one done this trany swap GM 700r4
from what ive heard the 700r isnt a very good tranny. the best gm automatic was the turbo 400.
but putting a gm anything in a ford is like a girl being in the boy scouts. it happens but it is just wrong... lol

Though every tranny has its flaws, I ran a 700 in 2 of my mud trucks and loved them never had a problem out of them at all. The 350 and 400 are great trannies also stock out of the box hands down would be a 400 great and durable. The last 700 I had was in my s10 blazer I had it built up with the moster in a box kit and had a 496 pushing around 380-400 horse at the flywheel (not sure at the wheels never dynoed it on a chassis but give or take 5-10% loss I think). A buddy of mine has one with a LS drag camero has never had a problem with it either and its built a bit. So I mean its all up to what the person whants I can say the 350 is junk do to the fact I have burnt a few up yet like I said its all up to the person.

But I guess the downfall of the 350 and 400 would be that theyre only a 3-speed correct? and the 700 is a 4 speed?
