I'm replacing the clutch in my 89 Ranger 6cy 2.9 L 2WD. I've disconnected the drive line removed all the bolts & such & I can't get the transmission to separate from the engine. I even got a come-along & tried to pull it off & it started to pull the whole truck! This is my first time doing this & all I have to go by is the Chilton & what came with the clutch kit. It doesn't say how many bolts connect the transmission to the engine. I've pulled 4 & can't see any more. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I pulled a pic up on google that showed four across the top half, 9, 11, 1, 3.
Hope this helps. I am not for sure on rangers but most vehicles you have to remove the starter as it has a bolt that penetrates too.
HTH.
P.S. It is not uncommon for them to be a pain to seperate but you should make darn sure you have all the bolts as bell housings will break apart like hollow chocolate Easter bunnies. Your best bet if you think you have all the bolts out is to spray a penetrator along the seam leave over night and go bongo with a black rubber mallet. G/L
My last reply didn't post for some reason, odd. Anyhow, yeah you guys were right. I missed the 2 bolts up top. So I've replaced the clutch & put everything back together. NOW I have no pedal. I spend an hour bleeding the clutch master cylinder to no avail. You pump it & u can hear it gurgling in the tranny. when u hold it down a lil bit of fluid dribbles out. I've filled it & pumped & filled it & pumped. Is my Master cylinder bad? or is it my slave cylinder?
I got it figured out. My brother in law came up this week end & helped me on it. I guess ur not supposed to pump it at all. Jus open the bleeder & poor it in up top & let gravity do the work. I got 'er all back together & she runs like a champ. Thank you guys for all ur help. It's much appriciated
