Default shift problems

I have a 03 ranger fx4. i was driving down the road and needed to speed up, at 60 mph i punch it and when it would usually go to 2nd gear, but it didnt, is just reved up to about 6,000 rpm and never made the shift. this has happed 3 to 4 times when trying to down shift to that gear for power. always between 60-75 mph. i can floor it an any other gear and works fine. what do you guys think. i heard that it could be a bad Clutch Band in the tranny. I would hate to get a new tranny if i dont really need it. but i wanted to see if any other ranger owners had have the same thing happen, or no what im talking about. thanks for your help

How many miles, and was it serviced when needed?

Sounds to me like something that could be caused by a stuck servo.
