Default unkown problem- loss of power

i was driving my 2001 ford ranger ex cab 4x4 5speed 3.0 and normally they dont have much power to begin with, but while i was driving the exhaust had a weird tone to it, and the truck lost all power, at first i could drop a gear to get it to speed up, but after about 2 minutes the only way to get it to even move was to put it in first gear and pop the clutch in and out, truck was also idleing inbetween 1500-2000
any help would be greatly appreciated with anyone who has had this problem, my guess would be it is clutch related or throwout bearing

try checking the air filter, spark plugs, and wires. chech the MAF sensor also.

or it could be the brakes locking up. jack the truck up and spin each wheel.

Check plugs, wires and coil pack. I had a very similar problem, dumped alot of money into it trouble shooting and turned out to be the combination of the 3 things listed above

thanks for your ideas, if it was siezed breaks i would have known the smell right away, just had that problem with my friends toyota, i got the problem fixed, and maybe figured out not sure, i started it up in the morning and when you put the gas to the floor the rmps would drop to about 400-500 and almost stall, but it was spitting gasoline out of the exhaust pipe, so i checked the fuel filter and it was fine, so i drained the gas tank then added about 3 more gallons of gas (was at a 1/4 tank) and it runs fine now, only thing i can think of is there was something in the gas the engine wasnt able to combust so it was spitting it out of the exhuast, not sure if thats right but its what i think was going on
