Default qustion on the differentals.

Can someone explain to me why Ford put no drain hole in the front of the back differantl cover? they put in on the backside of the DIFF. housing why that? also I think it would be alot easer to have it on the front cover to chang the oil.

Better drainage? I always pull the cover off mine to drain and to clean out the inside anyways.

dont know, fords not the only company to do that. just pull the cover, its good to take a look at your gears and such while youre in there. the plug on the front of the axle by the pinion is the fill hole.

The way I look at it is if it's time to replace the diff fluid then it's also time to clean the gears.

You can buy a diff. cover with a drain and fill hole. I bought this one from Ford Racing. The part #is M-4033-G1. It has load bolts which provide additional support for the differential bearing caps, increases ring and pinion gear life and strengthens the diff. M-4033-G2 is a lower profile design meant for newer Mustangs which the G1 will have clearance problems with. Both are for the 8.8 differential housing!!!...make sure you have that, not the 7.5. You can order it from a Ford dealer or many performance shops. It looks way better than the stamped steel cover looking at the vehicle from behind.

What year is your Ranger Don?..motor,etc. and condition. You would be looking at about 200 bucks for the Ford Racing axle girdles. I'd be surprised if the Red Chinese aren't selling blatant copies for 20 bucks complete with lead poisoning.
