Default Need help with transfer case removal on 2002 ranger 4X4

Hello all,

I have a 02 ford ranger edge 4X4 mostly stock aside from cold air intake and am currently in the process of replacing my clutch and am having issues removing the transfer case from the transmission tail shaft housing. I have removed the 5 main bolts that secure it, but the case simply wont budge. I have used a jack to try and pry/crack the seal of rtv but it wont come off. From what i have seen else where there is a gasket between the two components but it appears that instead of a gasket there is rtv sealant? I know for the rear diff they are usually RTV'd and its a b@#$@ to get it off with RTV. For those of you who have performed this removal, how can I remove the case without doing any damage? skinny putty knife? I have to get the tranny worked on separately as the syncros are toast with 140k on the truck but i need this dang thing off. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you have a small bull-pin (alignment bar) you could wedge it into the housing holes and see if you can pry apart one hole at a time. harbor freight sells them. Try the putty knife and see if you can break the bead first though, might make it easier.
