Default 4wd won't work

I live in CT and we got hit by the storm hard last night. I went out driving this morning and it would shift into 4h and 4l fine. Me and some friends went down this snowy road got stuck put it in 4l and ended up getting out of there. Later today as I was driving 4h just stopped working and the light comes on when I push it. I can put it in 4l but it only changes the gear ratios, but the front wheels won't do anything.

hmm sounds like its wanting to engage but just the front wheels arent locking in, have you tried getting other there n lightly hitting on the transfer case or moving the shift forks yourself?

Do you have lockouts? You probably have the auto locking hubs I'm thinking and there F**KD up.

I will go ahead and say the lockouts broke. Those things are junk. You can convert them over to manuals tho....

dont know, mine are already manual lockouts. I think its just a matter of getting the lockout, and getting some nut(s) for the axle. I think I read a post awhile ago about converting them over, just use the search and see what you can come up with.

You also should be able to hit a bone yard and just take everything off a ranger with Manual lockouts, and be done.

here are the links i was given.
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...Diagnosis.html

http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...to_hubswap.htm
read the notes at the bottom. i couldnt pull out the wedges with a magnet i had to hit the wedges through. just remember to take the wedges out after u hit them through

i just change out my hubs b4 the storm. here are the axel nuts you need http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-...rsion-kit.html

hers the link with the locking hubs
http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/c-...lock-outs.html

and i bought the manual locking hubs for the jeep. this is the part number for the jeep ones warn p/n 37780.

im not 100% sure that you have the dana 35 but i think u do

----------

i didnt have the money to buy the 2 3/8 in axel socket. so i very carefully used an air hammer with a pointy bit to loosen the axel nut

Thanks guys. I noticed some difference the last couple days, but is the 4wd system not that big of a difference than 2wd in rangers. Not sure I'm just used to driving with an awd system.
