I have a theory that the oil on the cotton allows the collected snow ir water droplets to pass eight through it either messing with the MAF sensor or just plain acting like water in the fuel..dunno its weird. Glad yours seems better as well. Cheers!

Our 99 does this too, and now that I think of it, it was snowing when I drove it... we also have a k&n filter, very strange... our truck does have other issues as well though.

If you didn't tamp off some of the excess oil off of the K&N, your MAF may be slightly contaminated. Grab a can of MAF cleaner and hose off the sensor. I'm betting that will fix you up.

I had that problem once and old ford guy said replace fuel filter. That took care of the problem.

This is a well discussed topic with the 4.0. It took a while to solve it..ONLY USE A MOTORCRAFT AIR FILTER!

Hi all,

We put a motor craft paper filter in it, it doesn't buck anymore, there were many other problems also that we had to fix, like two leaky head gaskets, and a failing fuel pump. But all is well again!
